Frequently Asked Questions
What is Hypnosis?
It’s a natural state we go into many times in a day or night. Have you ever driven somewhere and arrived and thought, how did I get here? You were in trance. Have you ever fallen asleep, but you could hear the TV you left on? And you thought, I have to get up and turn that off but I’m so comfortable. That’s trance. And the time in the morning when you awake, just coming up into consciousness, that’s trance too. You are awake and cognitively aware but relaxed.
What is the purpose of Hypnotherapy?
When used in a therapeutic setting, it is highly effective to bring about desired changes in thoughts and behaviors. It is the only therapy that interacts with the subconscious mind to release the resistance keeping you from making the change yourself.
Is Hypnotherapy safe?
Yes, it is completely safe and has no side effects. You are always in complete control of your mind and your body. And you will always act in accordance with your morals and ethics. You will never do or say anything in session that would embarrass you out of session.
How long has Hypnotherapy been around?
It is a scientific discipline with a large body of documented research by well-respected doctors and practitioners. European records date back 300+ years and ancient cultures go back several thousand years BC. Advances in the field are allowing expansion and integration of hypnotherapy in mainstream applications for trauma, addictions, pain relief, sleep issues, anxiety, stress, grief, and psycho-sexual problems, just to name a few.
What determines the outcome I will have?
All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. It is important to discuss your goal and what you perceive are the reasons you want to have this goal as well as the benefits of achieving your goal. You and your therapist will work as a team to construct and refine your intention. Often you are unaware of your own resistance to having what you think you want. This can be uncovered during your intake meeting or it can be revealed by your subconscious mind while in session. Change can occur as the layers of the onion are peeled away.
How soon will I have results?
Results are based on you, the individual and how ready, willing, and committed you are to attaining your goal. Progress often happens in the first session. Usually, it is human behavior that as your trust in the process grows, your progress flows.
What is a session really like?
After your intake interview, your therapist will be your guide. She will use her voice to take you on a guided journey into a relaxed state where words and imagination blend and you will visualize and explore. Every session is unique. Accessing the subconscious can be like unearthing things forgotten and buried. The accessed information often comes across the screen of your mind as thoughts, pictures, colors, symbols, feelings, and emotions. You will have the choice to view these events, circumstances, and people with new insight and clarity- choosing to release negatives thoughts, patterns, and feelings that you are holding and opening to greater love, peace, understanding, acceptance and forgiveness.
What if I can’t relax?
Everyone can relax! Some people are able to relax rapidly into the session and others need more of the step-down process of the session to release into the feeling of relaxation. It is a cultural shortfall here in the US, we don’t prioritize the art of relaxation as they do in other countries. Be assured; we have specific techniques to assist. If you feel this is you, let your therapist know.
